Xanadu Astoria

A place where nobody dared to go. A love that they came to know. They call it Xanadu…

John Farnham - Olivia Newton-John

That’s right queer people and allies, a bar just for you on the Pacific Northwest Coast. The time has come for you to lip-sync for your err…have a place to watch RuPaul’s Drag Race, music videos, drag shows, live music, Karaoke, play games, chill with your community, and eat delicious food! The Oregon Coast is known as a 2SLGBTQIA+-friendly destination, and now there is a place we can gather, eat, drink, and celebrate with each other.

We are located at the corner of 11th St and Marine in downtown Astoria, in the same building as the Columbian Theater. Enjoy our full-service bar and grill, which offers a selection of tasty pizza all week and brunch on the weekend from our culinary cafe called Sonny’s Scratch Kitchen. Sign up for our newsletter below and follow us on our socials for the latest updates.

We also feature queer-owned/friendly organizations and businesses on the Queer Astoria page of our website. We hope to be a staple for locals and the starting place for folks visiting from out of town, plus celebrate and highlight queer-owned businesses and allies on the Pacific Northwest Coast.

Our inspiration! How gay is that?! Now come on down and be fabulous!

A Queer Safe Space

A "queer safe space" is a designated environment where individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and others) can feel secure, accepted, and free from judgment or harm based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression. These spaces are intended to foster a sense of community, support, and inclusivity, enabling queer individuals to express themselves authentically without fear of discrimination, harassment, or violence.

Key elements of a queer safe space include:

  1. Respect and Acceptance: All individuals are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their identities.

  2. Confidentiality: Personal information and discussions are kept private to protect participants.

  3. Inclusivity: Efforts are made to include a diverse range of identities within the LGBTQ+ spectrum.

  4. Education and Awareness: Information about queer identities and issues is provided to promote understanding and empathy.

  5. Support and Resources: Access to support, whether emotional, social, or informational, is available to help individuals navigate challenges.

  6. Zero Tolerance for Discrimination: Clear policies are in place to prevent and address any form of discrimination or harassment.
